On October 9th it will be ten years to the day that I began my e-publishing adventure. Epub was in it's infancy back then, just taking it first steps on a journey no one knew where it would lead. There have been successes and failures along the way but all in all I would give it an unqualified win. I have eight books of my own which, incidentally, now all reside on the Kindle platform. My first few ebooks were done with the Bookbaby service online. They made it easy to get a book published and if you could make your own epub file it was downright cheap. The Kindle experience gradually became more and more tempting and with their program of paying for pages read to their Kindle Unlimited readers, I finally cut my ties to BB and enrolled every book into their Select program. It came about as an accident when BB suddenly started paying me for those pages read. I commented to them about the new feature and they replied that that was a mistake and they were removing me from that windfall. Thanks a lot! I asked if they could just change it and they said, no, you'll have to republish and pay another startup fee of $300. Well, being the independent publisher I am, I simply canceled all my books with BB and moved them to Kindle Direct Publishing on my own. BB was great in those early days helping me get into the ebook world but times change and now my money doesn't have to go through them to get to me. I recommend Bookbaby to those who aren't epub savy to check them out. They are a great company but after a decade, Fun-E-Books Publishing has outgrown them.

Finally getting back to work on new e-books after a particularly tough stretch we've all faced. It was bad for cartooning and e-booking from a creative standpoint. The energy was pretty much sucked out of the room and spent on useless endeavors such are politics and pestilence. One and the same as far as I'm concerned.
I have two e-books in the works; one in reflowable in InDesign and one in fixed layout with the great app Pubcoder. First book is a new Deluxe version of the very first e-book I made back in 2011. Cartoons That Will Send Me Straight To Hell, which has sold thousands of copies all over the globe and will have upsized images that accommodate today's high resolution screen devices. Back then e-books were low res and don't fill up the screen of a modern Kindle without zooming. I am throwing in 50 more cartoons and there will also be a special chapter on my career for America's First Amendment magazine and the iconic Mr. Flynt- with photos! Marking ten years of e-publication and still going strong. The next in the Looks Good On Paper comic series of e-books is in production, showcasing the best from my Gocomics feature in HD cartoon splendor. The aptly titled 'AHA!' will hit the e-shelves in March with the other shortly after. We'll keep you all posted when they go LIVE. Stay safe and warm! -Dan Here at Fun-E-Books Publishing the ebooks undergo rigorous testing on multiple devices to insure a quality product. Here we have an iPad, iPhone and a Kindle HD8. We open and shut them thousands of times to make sure they work first time, every time for you, the discriminating ebook consumer. Don't be fooled by slipshod EPUB production methods. Stick with FEB Publishing for the best in cartoon ebooks! In 1998 I did an editorial cartoon for the Delaware Gazette about a local school considering going to split sessions. I did a 'sword of Damocles' theme on it and always liked how it turned out. I repurposed it for the comic strip. A departure from the usual senseless gags to a thoughtful editorial but I think my readers will forgive me. And if not, phbltt!
There's a new page on FEB and it's for my new series of e-books from the Looks Good On Paper comic feature on Gocomics. There will be new ebooks coming along soon with further adventures from Dan's sub conscious. See it here! LGOP EBOOKS
I just completed a Kindle conversion of my iBook "My Cartoonist Is Not Funny". It's a fixed layout ebook, which for those of you who don't know much about ebook production, keeps it's page layout despite the reader's efforts to change fonts, orientation and so forth. It is locked in landscape view which suits the viewport of a comic strip. It turned out great and is now available on Amazon's Kindle store. Here's the link; http://bit.ly/LGOPcomics.
There will be more ebooks coming down the pipe in 2019 with more from LGOP and cartoon collections of my own. It's going to be an epub kind of year here at Collinstoons. Hey all! I have a new ebook out of my comic strip on #gocomics for all your iDevices. iBooks Author is a great tool for creating fixed layout ebooks. I've heard Apple is looking into expanding their market share in the coming years so as to compete with the Kindle giant. I never liked working with Amazon, they take too much and give too little for independent publishers. Only $3.99! A great last minute gift for all your loved iOnes!
http://bit.ly/LGOPebook Coming up next will be an ebook of my comic strip, Looks Good On Paper which is run by Universal/Gocomics.com. It will be a fixed layout ebook; my first one in that special format for epub. Here's a strip set to run this Easter Sunday which will definitely be in the new ebook. Happy Spring to you all!
A very happy holiday season to one and all! Don't forget, an ebook is a great gift and very affordable on your shopping list! It will also make my New Year a happy one. Love you all! The Fun-E-Books store
